#walangpasok | UPLB classes suspended August 19

[UPDATED: August 19, 8:50 am] UPLB Chancellor Rex Victor Cruz has confirmed the suspension of classes on Monday, August 19.

In a text blast, the Office of Student Affairs (OSA) said, “As per Gov. ER Ejercito and CRVOC, classes in UPLB (August 19, 2013) are suspended.”

Meanwhile, the University Student Council (USC)  posted in its Facebook page a text from Chancellor Cruz saying that classes and exams are suspended “due to extreme rains expected.” However, he said offices shall remain open tomorrow.

Likewise, Malacañang, through Executive Secretary Paquito Ochoa, Jr., has suspended classes at all levels in the province of Laguna.

As posted in the University’s official website, guidelines on the cancellation of classes and work in UPLB states the following:

“Announcements, orders and other issuances from the Office of the President, Republic of the Philippines regarding cancellation or suspension of classes and work in government offices due to weather disturbances and calamities in affected areas or the resumption of classes and work shall take precedence over issuances of local chief executives unless otherwise exempted from the coverage thereof.”

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said in a rainfall advisory that the rains in Laguna and nearby areas are caused by the southwest monsoon, known locally as hanging habagat. [P]
