UP students to walk out on February 28 against Mandatory ROTC

Words by Juan Sebastian Evangelista

UP Office of the Student Regent (OSR), led by Regent Isaac Punzalan, called on all UP students, organizations, formations, and councils to join in the national day of action on February 28 in light of the efforts to revive mandatory ROTC in both secondary and tertiary levels, with UP constituent units as pilot-testing universities.

The Citizen Service Training Course (CSTC) bill aims to repeal Republic Act 9163 or the National Service Training Program Act. If passed, the bill will require high school and college students to undergo mandatory military training and would organize trainees into military units. [P]
