The University of the Philippines Los Baños (UPLB) administration recorded its first confirmed COVID-19 case within the campus premises on Thursday – almost four months since the start of the enhanced community quarantine (ECQ) in Luzon.

According to their announcement on their official Facebook page, a relative of one of the UPLB employees living on campus tested positive for COVID-19 and is currently in quarantine and under monitoring at a government hospital in Laguna.

Moreover, the COVID-19 response team of the university has already done contact tracing, and the employee as well as all other members of the household have undergone throat swab already. They are observing quarantine procedures as of the moment while waiting for their results.

Meanwhile, UPLB urged its constituents to refrain from propagating unverified COVID-19 related information to prevent causing fear and panic, which happened recently when there were rumors about three university personnels who allegedly came in contact with the COVID-positive person.

On top of that, UPLB secured the possibility of having another confirmed case in the campus as the university has formed its own COVID-19 response team for its constituents even before the lockdown period. [P]
