UPLB events, initiatives to look forward to this week

“STRAY With Me” donation drive for animal shelters and centers

UP Saver launched a donation drive entitled, “STRAY With Me: Alalay Kina Muning at Bantay,” to raise funds for animal centers and shelters that include Strays Worth Saving (SWS), Marita Baquiran Yasuda (MBY) Pet Rescue and Sanctuary, and Halas Shelter. These facilities are badly affected by the COVID-19 pandemic as they are one of the most vulnerable facets of society. 

In order to help them recover, the academic organization aims to seek financial aid that will be used for food, rescue operations, medicines, and maintenance for animals. According to one of their Facebook posts, the target money pool as of moment is set at Php 15,000 which will be distributed equally. The said initiative started last October 29 and will end on November 19, 2020.

“The Future of Sustainability Amidst the Global Pandemic” webinar

Haring Ibon UPLB will hold a webinar entitled, “Sampaksaang Pangkalikasan 2020, Future of Sustainable Development amidst the Global Pandemic,” on November 14, 1 to 4 PM. 

According to their Facebook event post, this webinar aims to educate the students on the current situation of the Philippine biodiversity with respect to socio-economic issues including the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic in our country. In addition, it also seeks to offer ways on how we, as iskolars ng bayan, can help in protecting and conserving the environment and also provide the needs of the Filipino people and the future generation.

“Alalay Albay Project” donation drive for typhoon victims in Albay

UP Albayanos launched the donation drive, “Alalay Albay Project,” for their fellow Albayanos who were badly affected by the Super Typhoon Rolly. The varsitarian non-profit organization aims to help the communities in Albay which are currently struggling to secure food as it is impossible to continue with their livelihood. According to one of the posts in their Facebook page, power and communication lines were cut off while houses and infrastructures were flooded and some were even buried by lahar flow. Their situation leaves thousands of families displaced, and some are now grieving for the lives lost during the disaster.

UP Albayanos are calling on individuals and organizations to support their initiative in order to give aid to the severely affected families in the form of relief goods and meal packs. Here are ways to lend them a helping hand:

“Normalize Entrepreneurship” webinar
