UPLB events, initiatives to look forward to this week

The utmost urgency is now at its height because of the latest issues that have recently occurred, such as the threat to our academic freedom due to the UP-DND accord and Anti-Terror Law, attacks in Hacienda Yulo, and the worsening COVID-19 incidents. Now is the time for everyone to come together, be informed, and continue extending a helping hand to those who are in need. 

“PLANTdemic” week-long celebration of UP Phytopathological Society 64th Anniversary

The UP Phytopathological Society invites everyone to commemorate their 64th anniversary by joining their event, “PLANTdemic: Understanding Plant Disease for an Effective Outbreak Management,” on a week-long celebration from February 1 to 14, 2021.

The organization continues to implement activities that uphold their principles for a more effective utilization of Plant Pathology for the larger society. According to their Facebook page, the celebration has already started with their first activity, “PATH-TikTok,” that will end on February 7. With the use of the social video-sharing platform, TikTok, contestants are asked to raise consciousness, highlighting the importance of agriculture in times of pandemic, and giving back to our farmers. Prize money awaits you and your farmer beneficiary!

“CASangga” donation drive for Hacienda Yulo farmers

The UPLB College of Arts and Sciences Student Council (CASSC), in partnership with the CAS Freshmen Council (CASFC), is calling for donations for the farmers in Hacienda Yulo in Canlubang, Calamba, and Laguna who are currently being harassed and stripped off their rights after hired goons burned their homes, followed by demolition threats and roadblocks. 

The councils’ “CASangga” initiative serves as their donations and aides arm to extend a helping hand to the victims. The farmers are asking for donations such as food, clothes, blankets, sleeping mats, toiletries, and financial assistance. If you are interested to help, kindly refer to the bank details below:

“Ensuring Campus Safety Amidst the Dangers of Red-Tagging” educational discussion

The Youth Advocates for Peace with Justice – UPLB (YAPJUST-UPLB) invites you to their educational discussion, “Ensuring Campus Safety Amidst the Dangers of Red-Tagging,” together with the College of Economics Student Council (CEM SC) Chairperson and Student Regent 2nd Nominee, Sieg Severino.

Students are encouraged to join and be informed to resist campus militarization and defend academic freedom. The discussion will take place on February 4 at 3 PM via Zoom.
